Teenagers... Almost.

Please, all of you out there who have teenagers, tell me what to do with a prepubescent boy on the cusp of becoming a teenager! He refused to eat dinner because it was "gro-oss" and was told that he would eat nothing else tonight. Then he decided to be disrespectful to his dad about the incident and was told that he could not go to the playground at the school next door with the rest of the family after dinner. He came to me crying and being generally nasty- looking to me to agree with him that it was unfair. UUUUUGH!
What do I do with all these boy hormones first of all? The girls I think I will be able to deal with- having gone through girl puberty myself- but the boy? I'm at a loss.
And secondly, how do you curb the disrespect that teenagers think is a rite of puberty?
Please, please, please tell me all is not lost and that he will indeed be human again in the near future!

I haven't a clue. But when you find out, let the rest of us know.

Ugh...I'm dealing with some of the same stuff. And I haven't a clue as to how to deal with it properly. It's so frustrating and sad and I try to not to give in to the feelings of parental failure. I suppose it could be worse, but sometimes it feels huge.

I'm finding that I've been praying for my son probably more than I ever have

Dear Gina, I'm not an expert at all, and I have had much trouble in the same area. Here's my two cents: 1. Pray for wisdom. God knows and cares about each detail. He will help you and give you specifice ideas for individual children and for their needs. He is so faithful.

2. Read lots of books by James Dobson. or authors he says are good. I have Bringing Up Boys by him. I also have Mothers and Sons by Jean Lush. There is one I want to get called The Five Love Languages of Teens. I'm not sure who the author is.

3. Go to my sister Sharon's blog at roseofsharonmay it's on my side bar. She has four boys who are happy, respectful, hard workers, they love God, and I mean really love the Lord. She has gone through lots of stuff and has prayed through and sought the Lord over each trial with her boys. God has blessed her and given her answers.

I have asked Sharon many times what to do. She always points me to daily prayer over children, especially early morning before anyone gets up. She writes the needs down and then puts it in red or stars it when God answers.

Bless you Gina. The Lord is with you and He cares about this situation and He knows all your needs.

Bless you sweetie, Kathi
