The Book Of Eli

I am a huge movie person (I'm not huge, I enjoy movies hugely), but I always worry when Hollywierd does any treatment of Christianity.

Have you ever seen the movie Saved!

How about The DaVinci Code?

Having said that, I went to see The Book Of Eli last night.

While there are some things I disagree with doctrinally, it treated Christianity and more specifically, the Bible, with respect. Denzel Washington plays the part of The Walker- and he plays it exceptionally well.

The movie is well written, well acted, and has a surprise ending.

There is even a pretty girl in the movie who looks a bit like Baby Angelina- before she ruined her lips.

If you are a huge movie person, I recommend seeing this one.

***These movies were respectful, but so poorly acted that they were not taken seriously by the mainstream. And I do not say that lightly, as I have the greatest respect for Kirk Cameron, and the stand he has taken for purity and integrity.

Even When I'm Not Late...

Jonah goes to preschool on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 12:30. Scratch that. Preschool starts at 12:30. Jonah usually gets there at 12:40. At 12:30 we are frantically looking for the other shoe and swiping a rag at his Spagetti-O'd face as he runs by. We find the shoe (Or coat, or Show-and-Tell bag, or communication envelope, or whatever it happens to be that is making us late on that particular day), and dash to the car for the 4 block drive to preschool. All of you who have ever lived in an urban setting need to close your mouth now- I know you would NEVER drive 4 blocks, but we are LATE.
On Friday at 12:15 I turned to Jonah and said, "How about we try something new today? How about not being late?"
He replied, "What, you mean leave right now?"
"Uh, yeah."

So we got both shoes, a coat and whatever else we needed and got in the car for our four block drive. I drove through the drop off lane and to the class room door at 12:29 and waited for the teacher to open the door and greet Jonah.
The door did not open.
And then I noticed there were no lights on in the class room.
And then I remembered that Friday was the day that the afternoon preschool was combined with the morning preschool for a field trip to the fire department.
D'OH!

Even when I'm not late, I'm late!

The One About Eating Northern California

What do you say when your husband calls on Christmas eve and asks if you want to go to California? You say, "Of course," Right?
So, what if he says, "Do you want to go Tomorrow?"
Do you say yes?
Well I did- because I'm crazy like that.
We had Christmas dinner at my house, packed, and then left for California. At Midnight. So our kids would ride quietly- asleep.
We got to Fairfield, California at noon on the 26th. And stopped at the Jelly Belly factory. And ate lots of Jelly Bellys. Lots.

We went to Chevy's. they used to have those here. Sadly, they don't any more.
We ate a lot. A lot more.

The next day we went to San Fransisco. And ate at the Boudin Sourdough Company. On the way home we ate IHOP. We also got to go see Yosemite.
Where we ate out of our cooler.
But did stop to buy hot chocolate.
When it was time to go home we stopped for one more lunch at Chevy's- because it was that good.
We drove back to fairfield and went to the Budweiser factory- and tasted some beers.
Then we found out that I-5 was closed at Shasta due to severe snow storms. The only way for us to get home was to drive up the coast. So we headed west to Petaluma- where we had dinner at In&Out Burger.
We drove all night and hit Vancouver, WA at 9:30. We stopped to see some good friends- and breakfast was ready- and we were hungry!

We ended up having Applebee's for dinner that night.

So, how about you? Do you ever just take off at the drop of a hat?
Have you ever eaten an entire state?

Bump, Set,

SPIKE!
We took a family vote. We did an anonymous ballot where we ranked the names suggested in order from our least favorite (1) to our most favorite (17). The I took each of the ballots and totaled the numbers. While Spike wasn't the most popular with everyone it did have the highest combined score. So, Spike he shall remain.
