The Job Board

Because Kat asked, and because I am conspicuously missing pictures lately;
Here is how I made our job board
Start with a piece of poster board.
I like the new ghost lines.
I also love my clear quilting ruler and my permanent markers in every color.
I sectioned a part of the poster board off for each kid.
Then I printed off all the jobs.
Yes they are certain colors for a reason. Each type of job has a color.
That way I can tell at a glance if they have been evenly distributed.
Cut apart your jobs and laminate them.
I highly recommend that every household come equipped with clear contact paper.
And a cutter. And a clear quilting ruler. And permanent markers.
Buy some Velcro sticky dots.
Stick the fuzzy side to the jobs.
This is called "nuecro" by the way. Look it up.
Neucro (new' kro) n. The negative or "uncharged" strip of Velcro that Posicro adheres to.
And put the scratchy side, or "posicro", on your job board.
Posicro (pah' sih kro) n.
The magnetic or "charged" strip of Velcro. ant Neucro
Attach your jobs and you are in business.
Next week I will take Abby's jobs, move them up to Libby. Caleb gets Libby's, Jesse gets Caleb's, and Abby gets Jesse's. Jonah's are pretty static right now. After a 4 week rotation I will take them all down, mix them up, and redo the whole process.

I love the velcro and the mixing up of the chores. Do you have a system of them checking off what they have done? Like we have a list of things posted in our basement - like a check list - of what they are supposed to do to clean up. But, they ignore the list until I have steam coming out of my ears. I am trying to find a way to get them to actually do what is on the list - on their own.

Brilliant! I like the idea of mixing up the chores...we tend to get stuck in a rut around here.

Kat- no check list. mom is the check list. I go check. What they do have is a step by step list on how to clean certain rooms. I made detailed instructions for, say, the family room and put them in a picture frame. Now they just follow the list. I have to resd each step for Abby still.

Wow... beautiful! Now are you going to come to my house and do that for me? And is the clear quilting ruler how you wrote so beautifully? (I don't know what that is)

The quilting ruler is how I got such nice straight lines! That, and the ghost lines on the poster board.
