A Funny Thing Happened On My Way To Disneyland

Actually, It was pretty scary.
It was late, I was tired. It had been my day to drive- my mom had taken the afternoon shift, but I had had the morning and night shifts.
We were on our way from Sacramento to San Francisco- because that's totally on the way to Disney (look on a map), and it was really late. We were driving on a really dark stretch of freeway and we were the only car in the area. I was scanning the overhead signs to make sure I didn't miss the freeway interchange I needed.
Suddenly, my mom started gasping-
And I screamed. Because right in front of me was a HUGE white thing. And I had no time to miss it. And I hit it. And it was loud. And big. And scary.
I pulled to the side of the freeway, turned off my car, and promptly began to hyperventilate.
Turns out the police knew it was there.
Turns out they knew it was a couch.
Turns out that when we left 15 minutes later, the police still had not arrived to remove the tattered remains of the white sofa.
There is minimal damage to my dad's newish car. Sorry, dad.

Here's where it gets funny.
The next night we were driving into LA when my mom suddenly changed lanes.
"Why are you driving like there's a couch on the road?!"
"Slow down, you never know when a couch is going to jump out at you...."
"Wow! Your car looks like sh*t! What did you do? Hit a couch in the road?"
We had the WORST case of giggles as the ridiculousness of hitting a couch on the road hit us.

Next Thanksgiving when someone starts talking about some freeway incident, I'm going to blurt out, "Couch in the road!" And watch while mashed potatoes come spewing out of my mom's mouth while the company scratches their head and tries to figure out why that is so funny.

Firstly, I love the new bloggy look.

Secondly, I love your mom. And I hope she DOES spew taters when you yell "COUCH ON THE ROAD!" at Thanksgiving.

But why was there a couch on the road? A white one at that? Did y'all sit on it while inspecting the damage to your dad's car? I would have.

BaAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh man, I was reading along and thought it was going to be some animal that jumped out-- I had to read it three times. A COUCH! Hey, you know when one couch shows up in the road, you are suppose to watch for more because they might group together. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

YIKES!!! I'll be sure to watch out for couches jumping out at me on road trips. I thought for sure you were going to say it was a cow. (Well actually first I thought you were going to say your mom was choking.) So glad you didn't get hurt and the car didn't get more damaged!

That was hilarious! Seriously...I was wondering what the heck you could have hit that was white. A couch. But my question is why didn't the police make sure the couch got moved out of the way. That could have been a bad accident! Glad you're safe. Jealous about where you are/went but happy for you, too! BTW notice my new name and blog address? Just checking.

Glad you're OK and laughing about it now. Don't know if I'd be able to, though, if it had happened to me!

Gina, I'm laughing so hard at you're post I think potatoes might come out my nose! Good thing I ate them much earlier tonight! That would be painful. Kinda like hitting a huge couch on the hwy.

So nice meeting you in person. Just think, if you all would have spent the night with us like normal people would have decided to do you would have missed the couch all together. LOL JUST KIDDING! I'm glad you're ok. Give each other big hugs for me.

Anyway, just a thought said...

Boy, do I miss living in California! Hee hee
Now you can really appreciate the wonder of a good ol' California high speed chase - you try ditching law enforcement while being chased by couches. Or, is it ditch couches while being chased by law enforcement?
