I HATE Laundry

It's one of those chores that just as soon as you are done you realize that every one just took off the days clothes and put on their pajamas. In my house a days worth of clothes adds up to a whole other load- though never all the same color, so there they sit until next week. We are also in the midst of potty training our nearly three year old. Now here's where laundry gets interesting. We usually have a faint pee smell wafting from the laundry room, although usually not so bad that it can't wait for a full load.
Today is laundry-potty training day. My darling little man forgot to go poop in the toilet. Since I was busy cleaning out the shower my husband gamely took on the little stinker! When he asked me what he should do with the stinking heap of clothes I told my husband that he should run them alone in a water only cycle since I knew I would be starting all the laundry later. OK, good enough.

So, at about 10:00pm I tossed a mountain of laundry over the stair rail and rolled my laundry hampers over to sort all the clothes. My dear 2 11/12ths year old took a nap much too late in the day, therefore he was available to help sort the clothes. Usually this child is absolutely normal- but he has a sick love of laundry which I am sure one day he will need therapy for. Darling Boy grabbed every sock he could find so he could "Fold them out." (Socks must go into the washer right-side-out or you may end up with a sock full of very clean sand....) as he is working my darling baby is HUMMING. I do not hum when it comes to laundry- ever. After we had the laundry all sorted we took it to the laundry room. This dear child also loves to load the washer. He stands with his hands in the front of the washer and I throw laundry onto his arms, he then shoves the clothes inside. And so we dance until the washer is full. It is also his self appointed job to pull the clean wash out of the washer and hand it up to me so that I can put it into the dryer since the units are stacked.

As we went to the laundry room I smelled a peculiar odor. Hot Poop??? It seems that my loving husband had his mind else where when he was taking care of the stinking pile of baby boy clothes and absently put them into and started the DRYER!!! He swears he put them into the washer and washed them, but there they were stinking up my dryer.

Well, I washed the dryer out with Simple Green and ran it for 20 minutes full of dryer sheets. I think that took care of the problem. But, just be sure I did what any dutiful wife would do for her husband. I washed and dried his work gloves first so he would be sure to have them tomorrow....

absentminded husband?

yeah, mine too. Hasn't put poop in the dryer yet, but there's a first time for everything. Now I'm prepared. I know how to handle it when it happens.

That's pretty good stuff with the work gloves girl. *wink*wink* You are certainly more devoted than I would have been.

Hot poop?! Ewww!
I think I can get some sympathy from you, though.
I have no washer or dryer. (ok, techincally I have one, but they're in storage and I have NO room in my home for them.)
I have to use a :::shudder::: LAUNDROMAT.
And it SUCKS.

Haven't had the run in the with the dryer yet, but more than once I've found my own keys in the freezer. Now, it's one of the first places I look!

Ewwww.

Geeez, did my husband get lost at your house? That sound's like something my husband would do. It's a good thing my kids know how to do their own laundry.

I just finished laundry and it took me allll weekend. I also sorted out all the clothes that we don't even wear anymore to give to the salvation army because the kids pull them out of drawers and off hangers but never wear them.
Then they get washed for now reason.

This post makes me wish I could go back to when mine were young and share with them early on, the joys of laundry... I waited too long and now they HATE it too!

Ooohh...I feel your pain! My little guy just finished potty training but sometimes we still have overnight accidents. It reinforces the horriblness of laundy for me!

I'm glad SITS featured you...I love finding like-minded ladies (you know, with the hate of laundry).

I'll visit here again very soon!

That is hilarious! Good thinking with the work gloves too! :)

My twins used to help me sort and do the laundry and SING while they were doing it. ' The wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round' ' was stuck in my head for a long time...

I like the way you handled your husband's *OOPS* ...drying his work gloves first, that shows real class :-)

oh my...my favorite is the washer full of diaper jells that have filled up from being washed with the clothes...(from a disposable diaper)

I think laundry is my nemesis...and swallows diapers on purpose.

Love that you pooped up your husbands gloves!!

I love that you are raising your little guy to like doing laundry; smart woman! His future wife will thank you!

P.S. A friend told me that every time she folds laundry, she offers a prayer of thanks for the privilege of having little ones to wear those baseball uniforms, dirty those socks, and stain those shirts. I tried it, but it doesn't work for me; I still hate laundry!

Nice, nice touch with the work gloves. I wouldn't be in the right frame of mind to think of something that good.

PLUS...I'd be at SEARS shopping for a new dryer and possibly a hubby.

Yeah...I don't overreact or ANYTHING.Hot poop brings it to a whole other level though.

Glad there are moms/wives like you out there that think of Simple Green and work gloves first. Good for you.

Good stuff, girl! Thank you, SITS!

Ugh!! good job getting your dh's gloves in there!! I would probably do the same thing. I need to train my kids in the joys of laundry!! Of course I cannot find any joy in laundry myself.

Oh, I don't want to imagine poop in the dryer! Ewwwww! And a 2 (nearly 3, prolly 3 by now, almost 4 - sheesh, I'm late to the table!)year old that hums doing laundry, I wouldn't mind one of those. At least I wouldn't be the only on doing it all the time.

Dropping by from SITS!

Are you serious! Were you really that calm when you discovered the present in the hot, dirty dryer? I would have lost my mind. Every neighbor within hearing distance-would hear how mad i was! Props to you for handling it so well. Good to know that simple green will get rid of that smell. So sorry you had to experience such a FUN thing!

That sounds so much like something my hubby would do. He's so brilliant, but so absentminded. It's happened more then once that he's paid for food at a drive through and then drove off without it, yet he's brialliant engineer.

Melissa Lester said...

Ooh, I gasped when I read that one. The laundry is a neverending chore at our house too!

Michelle said...

OMG! I did not see that one coming! Had it been me, I would have made him clean the mess, but that's why I'm a mean mommy/wife.

You aren't the only one with a two year old who loves to do laundry. Little Miss insists on helping me (and doing it her way, which usually involves putting some clean clothes in the washer, too). Here's hoping this phase never ends!

Dapoppins said...

Is there music playing? Is that you?

I was going to say something about your great story and your laundry loving son, and your hot poop, but this music is making me sway back and forth ....

How cool is that...music for comments...is that really your player?

Oh, nasty!!!

Reminds me when we were in the parents' room at church during the winter. A parent changed a poopy diaper and threw it away in the trash right by the space heater. There really isn't anything like hot poop! GAG.

Oh, that is hilarious. I think I would have just bought another dryer. I love the idea of throwing the clothes over the stair rail. I'm going to have to steal that one!
